Spinster (2020) Spoiler-Free Summary – What It's About

In the breezy coastal town of Halifax, Gaby runs a thriving catering business, turning everyday meals into celebrations with a mix of charm and quiet ambition. Her life is a comfortable rhythm of kitchen aromas, close‑knit friendships, and the subtle expectations that come with approaching a milestone birthday. The city's salt‑kissed streets and the easy camaraderie of her social circle create a warm backdrop for a story that feels both intimate and universally relatable.

As her 39th birthday draws near, Gaby is jolted by a sudden breakup that forces her to confront the lingering fear of ending up alone. The departure shatters the familiar narrative she has carried—one that, like many, includes the unspoken timetable of marriage and children. With the steady reassurance of her married best friend, Amanda, she finds herself at a crossroads, caught between the comfort of familiar patterns and the unsettling possibility of redefining what fulfillment looks like on her own terms.

What follows is less a race against time than a gentle, often humorous, exploration of self‑discovery. Gaby begins to question the assumptions that have guided her life, from career choices to the way she imagines love and companionship. The tone balances wit with poignancy, inviting the audience to watch a modern woman navigate the awkward, hopeful, and sometimes messy terrain of singledom, all while the rhythm of Halifax life—its ocean breezes, neighborhood gatherings, and quiet moments of reflection—reminds her that happiness can be crafted in countless unexpected ways.
