A prize‑fighting banty rooster, eager to slap, goes on a punching spree whenever a bell rings. After falling out of a truck onto a farm, he lands amid Foghorn Leghorn’s usual sparring match with the barnyard dog. Foghorn and the dog then exploit the rooster’s manic punching by ringing a bell whenever he’s close enough to strike their intended target.

The cartoon opens with a car pulling a small trailer carrying Kid Banty Sheldon Leonard, a champion fighting rooster. The vehicle hits a bump and Banty tumbles from the trailer, still wearing boxing gloves, and immediately starts punching a nearby cow whenever the bell around its neck rings, revealing that his aggression is tied to bells.
Meanwhile, the Barnyard Dawg is securing a large pipe to a makeshift elevated wooden platform and affixes a sign that reads “See A Genuine Flying Saucer.” Curious, Foghorn Leghorn Mel Blanc peers into the pipe, and Dawg fires a teacup saucer through it, which shatters on Foghorn’s head. Dawg follows with another teacup, and then, in a familiar bite of cartoony mischief, asks Foghorn if he wants “one or two lumps.” A dazed Foghorn answers in the affirmative, and the dog pulls out a large mallet to deliver a sharp head-whack.
Later, Foghorn is tinkering with an alarm clock when Banty wanders by. When the alarm rings, Banty again launches a punch at Leghorn. Foghorn asks why this keeps happening, and Banty explains that every time he hears a bell, he starts punching. Seeing an opportunity for revenge, Foghorn hatches a plan against Dawg and sends Banty to the doghouse to request a punching bag. Banty returns with a gift-wrapped box, and Foghorn cautions him that the box could be a trap, yet Banty opens it anyway. Inside is a clock that chimes, and Banty delivers another punch to Foghorn as the clock plays on.
Determined to turn the tables, Foghorn tries to hire Dawg as Banty’s sparring partner, but Dawg refuses and instead promises to find him another partner. Dawg lures Foghorn to a tree trunk that he claims hides a show with dancing girls inside. Foghorn, eager for a look, sticks his head into the trunk and finds nothing but a small hole. He muses that it might be a peep show, unaware that Dawg has set up a miniature boxing ring atop the trunk. When Banty steps into the setup, he uses Foghorn’s head as a punching bag, setting up a final slapstick moment of chaos and continuing rivalry.
