After the September 11 attacks, global airspace was restricted and the Taliban were ousted. In January 2002, Kærn read about 16‑year‑old Farial in Kabul who dreamed of flying. With partner Magnus Bejmar, she financed a 1961 Piper Colt from sales of WASP paintings, flew 6,000 km to Kabul to give Farial her first flight and reclaim the skies. Their three‑month journey through the Balkans included meetings with Turkish female fighter pilots, a tribute to pioneer Sabiha Gökçen, and an aerial heart of smoke created with the Turkish Air Force.
