Sleepover

On the last day of 8th grade, Julie hosts a slumber party with Hannah, Farrah, and Yancy. Staci Blake issues a challenge: a scavenger-hunt contest with a coveted lunchtime seating near the fountain as the prize. The losers will sit near the dumpsters.

Staci reveals the scavenger-hunt targets: a photo with a date inside a nightclub, a Patroltec insignia, a pair of Steve Phillips' boxers, and a dressed-up Old Navy mannequin. The friends discuss where to find each item and how to sneak out without drawing attention.

To keep their parents fooled, Julie enlists her older brother Ren to cover for them. They slip out using Yancy's father's Hypermini and move through the night, dodging a Patroltec guard along the way. The plan is to visit locations and collect the required items.

The four sneak into Cosmo nightclub. Julie discovers that her date at the club is her schoolteacher, who buys her a drink and navigates the awkward dynamic of the situation.

Julie drops her scarf inside the club, and Gabby spots it during a separate night out and tries to call Julie. The scarf becomes a tangible sign that Julie’s night out is continuing.

Julie hurries home on a skateboard after the Hypermini gets boxed in traffic. Steve Phillips sees her in a dress skating by and is impressed by the mysterious girl in his peripheral vision.

Julie talks with her dad and proves she’s at home; Ren agrees to keep covering for her. She then slips away again, heading toward Steve’s house for another clandestine encounter.

At Steve’s house, Steve and a friend discuss the girl they saw, using an old yearbook to piece clues together. Julie, hiding in the bathroom, narrowly escapes him and grabs his boxers before fleeing.

Meanwhile, Staci’s group watches for trouble at Steve’s house and alerts Patroltec. They manage to grab the Patroltec insignia from a security-guard car before slipping away.

The school dance arrives and both groups present their collected items. Tension rises as the crowd waits for a potential tiebreaker, with clues and loyalties on the line.

Staci’s crew wins the dance contest in a tense moment, and Steve is named homecoming king. He chooses Julie as his partner for the victory dance, effectively crowning her in front of their peers.

After the dance, Ren calls to warn that Gabby is headed home, forcing the girls to hurry back to Julie’s house. They slip inside and narrowly avoid being caught, but Julie accidentally drops the crown amid the frantic dash.

The next morning, Gabby asks exactly what happened last night. Julie shows her the scarf Gabby found, and Gabby expresses surprised admiration for Julie’s maturity rather than anger.

Julie finds Steve waiting inside her tree fort with the lost crown, and the two share a quiet kiss that hints at a new beginning. The moment closes with a sense of lingering romance and possibility.

In a final glimpse, Staci and her friends are shown in high school, eating lunch by the dumpsters and reflecting on their social circle as the old dynamic fades into memory.
