Silent Action

Three army officials are found murdered but staged as suicides, triggering an official investigation. At the same time, Salvatore Chiarotti, a wealthy master electrician, is found dead, and Inspectors Solmi, Caprara, and De Luca begin to look for connections between the two cases. The investigation sets the tone for a web of blackmail, corruption, and hidden loyalties.

Solmi and Caprara visit Baronessa Isidora Grimani at her estate and uncover that she operates a brothel connected to Chiarotti. They offer her immunity in exchange for information and seek a lead on the killer’s motive. The visit reveals the reach of influence and the murky underworld surrounding the case.

The team interrogates Giuliana Raimondi, Chiarotti's last visitor, who has attempted suicide and is treated in the hospital. The police initially treat her as the prime suspect, but she admits guilt only to the broader crime context. Solmi grows suspicious of her initial confession and starts suspecting a blackmail plot behind the killings.

Caprara and De Luca guard Chiarotti's villa overnight and witness a man break in to steal tape recordings. The intruder, Remo Ortolani, is taken into custody. Solmi listens to the captured tapes and hears a conversation between General Stocchi and a lawyer named Rienzi, who is invited to join a plot that Stocchi refuses.

Solmi questions Ortolani about blackmail rumors and Chiarotti’s possible manipulation of tapes. District Attorney Mannino later discovers that the tape recording has been erased, leaving the case with a glaring gap. The erased tape fuels further suspicions of a broader conspiracy.

Solmi confronts Mrs. Martinetti, wife of oil baron Martinetti, who had ties to Chiarotti. She explains she contacted him after learning of her husband’s plan to leave her following a tryst. Mr. Martinetti later reveals that Chiarotti had sold blackmail tapes on his wife to him, which he bought to distance himself from her.

Two assailants abduct Raimondi from the hospital, and Mannino blames Solmi’s surveillance approach. Solmi asks to interrogate Ortolani again, but Mannino releases him due to lack of evidence. The case spirals as witnesses are abducted and suspects walk free.

Solmi, Caprara, and De Luca apprehend Ortolani at the airport and begin transporting him for interrogation. An assassin on a motorcycle murders Ortolani mid-transport, and the killer escapes in a car, escalating the pursuit and mystery.

Raimondi’s captors pressure her to confess and she shoots one of them, telling Solmi that Massù killed Chiarotti. Before Solmi can rescue her, Raimondi is killed by Massù, prompting Solmi and Caprara to deduce Massù’s true identity as Giovanni Andreassi.

Solmi and his men confront Massù at a boxing club; he attempts to flee but is cornered and arrested. Massù confesses that he framed Raimondi as Chiarotti’s killer and that he murdered Raimondi to prevent her from talking. He also reveals the motive that Chiarotti was killed for blackmail material on Martinetti and his wife.

Mannino questions the authenticity of Massù’s confession, ordering Solmi’s team to confront Martinetti and Massù for the real killer. They reach Massù’s prison and discover he has been killed in a riot by a non-inmate, and Martinetti has fled to Kuwait.

De Luca is murdered in a hit during a bowling alley robbery investigation, removing another officer from Solmi’s inner circle. The attack signals a broader conspiracy aimed at eliminating witnesses.

Maria receives photographs linking Stocchi’s and Massù’s killers to a German mercenary named Franz Schmidt. Sperli reveals Schmidt’s identity and Solmi and Sperli pursue him across borders.

Solmi and his team corner Schmidt in a hotel room and uncover a list of conspirators that includes Rienzi; geographic coordinates point to a mountain camp where paramilitary forces train. The pursuit leads to a dangerous confrontation with the network behind the killings.

A chase leads to the mountain camp where Sperli is revealed to be Rienzi. Caprara exposes himself as the traitor, ordering Sperli’s attempted escape and participating in his murder of Sperli. In a final drive-by, Solmi is killed, as Maria looks on in horror.
