Signal (2023) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

In the final moments of The Signal, Sven finally pieces together the fragmented transmission Paula left before her disappearance. He discovers that Charlie holds the true coordinates of the extraterrestrial rendezvous—scribbled on her arm—while Sven possesses the correct date. Armed with this information, they refuse to let the corrupt authorities rewrite the story; the billionaire Benisha Mud hi, who had engineered the plane crash to keep the discovery under her control, is exposed and taken into custody thanks to the confession of her aide Nora.

Choosing to honor their mother’s vision, father and daughter travel to the marked site on St. Nicholas’ Day, the same place where they were once held at gunpoint. There, instead of a hostile alien craft, they encounter Voyager 1, the iconic probe launched in 1977. As Charlie touches the golden record attached to it, the timeless greetings and music recorded on the disc begin to play, echoing Paula’s hope that humanity could reach out and be heard by other worlds. The scene suggests that an alien intelligence has responded, returning the messenger that once carried Earth’s voice.
