Ashish Khanna, Akshaye Khanna and Rani Bhalla, Ayesha Takia meet at a roadside cold drink stall, and over the next few days they fall in love. Rani introduces Ashish to her businessman dad, Tau, Anupam Kher and mom; they unanimously frown upon this alliance, until Ashish promises to get a job, save enough money, buy a flat, and prove he can provide stability. He lands a small job with Izzat Papads, but soon ventures into selling steroids out of the back of a van to make ends meet. His hustle catches the eye of an ad firm owner, and he gets hired, launching him into a life of comfort and luxuries he had always dreamed of. Seeing his rapid rise, the Bhalla family gradually softens their stance, and a lavish engagement party unfolds, signaling a formal blessing on the union.

It isn’t long before Ashish learns that he has cancer, a bombshell that unsettles him and triggers a cascade of misunderstandings between him and Rani. He attempts to cope by slipping into alcoholism, a path that the Bhallas seem to tolerate as part of his turmoil, but the hidden truth is bigger: he confesses to Rani that he has loved Sania, a model with the ad agency, a revelation that Rani initially takes as honesty and openness. The dynamics grow more complicated when Rani notices Sania’s photos all over Ashish’s apartment, prompting her to break off the engagement in heartbreak and confusion.

Ashish suspects that Sania will not marry him, given her flirtatious reputation, but a trip to Malaysia with Sania changes the perception. It becomes clear that Sania is not merely a flirt but someone who wants to marry him, a realization she confirms by introducing him to her brother, Anna, who instantly approves of the match. Anna then pulls Ashish into the family business, which operates on extortion, and Ashish is trained to use guns and defend himself. As the wedding approaches, Ashish reveals his cancer again, prompting calls for health verification. Dr. Rustom is summoned by Anna and delivers a clean bill of health, clarifying that Ashish’s earlier fear stemmed from overhearing a conversation about another patient and misunderstanding what was said.

Meanwhile, Rani and their friend Rocky begin to plan their own wedding, while Rohit holds true feelings for Rani. Sania remains determined to win Ashish back, pursuing him at every turn. In a climactic car chase, Ashish confronts Rani and lays bare all the tangled truths he has carried. It is revealed that the prospect of marrying Rohit was a ruse orchestrated by Sania and Rohit themselves, designed to capitalize on Ashish’s love for Rani. With the scheme exposed, the story moves toward its hopeful resolution, and the couple finally finds a way to be together, bringing the film to a satisfying, happy ending.
