Seven Minutes in Heaven

After an argument with his stepfather Gerry, Jeff runs away and ends up staying at Natalie’s house. Natalie agrees to host him while her father is away on business, setting the stage for the trio’s evolving dynamic. This arrangement marks the beginning of their close living situation.

Polly, jealous of Natalie, meets professional baseball player Zoo Knudsen. They seek cover in a lingerie store to dodge an obsessive fan, and Zoo buys Polly a negligee. That night they kiss in his car, and Zoo invites Polly to New York to watch a game.

Jeff's mother talks to his football coach and convinces him to kick Jeff off the team as punishment for leaving home. She later encounters Jeff again and urges him to return home, but he refuses to come back. The family conflict deepens as Jeff resists returning to his old routine.

One evening Polly goes to Natalie's house and finds Jeff outside in a sleeping bag to give Natalie and Casey privacy. Polly leaves, wrongly assuming Natalie and Casey are having sex. The moment heightens Polly's jealousy and tensions among the friends.

Polly hears back from Zoo by mail and receives a signed photo, but the letter is a typed, generic fan-response. She is disappointed by the lack of a personal touch and grows more frustrated with Zoo's inaccessibility.

Frustrated over Zoo and jealous of Natalie’s relationship with Casey, Polly accuses Natalie and the two argue. Natalie storms out of Polly's house, ending their moment of conflict but leaving hurt feelings in their wake.

Polly attempts to seduce Jeff to become more worldly before seeing Zoo again. They begin to get intimate, but Jeff walks out when Polly mentions Zoo, ending the moment abruptly.

During a school fire drill, Polly shouts to Jeff that Casey is flirting with their classmate Lisa, which Natalie overhears. Casey admits he never stopped seeing Lisa, leaving Natalie heartbroken. She lashes out at Jeff for not telling her and withdraws from him.

Natalie wins a writing competition and travels to Washington, D.C. She meets the Vice-President, a state senator, and Williams, a White House aide. Williams takes Natalie sightseeing and attempts to kiss her, which she avoids; she declines his invitation to go back to his place and suggests visiting the Washington Monument instead.

Polly goes to New York to watch Zoo play and creates a scene by climbing onto the dugout and pulling out the negligee to attract Zoo's attention. Police detain her, and Bill, a professional photographer, intervenes, pretending to know her to keep her out of trouble. Bill lets her stay at his apartment and, after an unsuccessful attempt to seduce him, drives her to the airport the next morning.

Natalie's father arrives home and discovers Jeff has been living with Natalie. Natalie and Polly run into each other at the airport and reconcile, easing some tensions between the friends.

Natalie's father calls Jeff's mother, who arrives and demands that Jeff come home. Natalie returns home and is confronted by her father and Jeff's mother. Natalie apologizes to her father, and he apologizes too, hinting at a partial reconciliation.

Jeff and his mother talk on Natalie's porch. Jeff says he is thinking about moving to California to be with his dad, but his mother reminds him that his father doesn't have a home or job. Jeff insists Gerry isn't his father, but she counters that Gerry's the only father he'll ever have.

Sometime later, Jeff is seen playing basketball with Gerry outside his house when Natalie and Polly arrive on roller skates and pull him away. The three friends walk down the street holding hands and smiling, signaling reconciliation and renewed friendship.
