Seong Chun-hyang

On Dano Day, Namwon magistrate Lee Do-ryeong visits Gwanghallu Pavilion and sees Chun-hyang swinging. He orders Bang-ja to summon her, but Chun-hyang refuses to be dragged away. Chun-hyang's lineage—daughter of a former gisaeng whose mother Wolmae is a gisaeng—highlights the tension, while she devotes herself to reading, painting, and calligraphy.

That night, Lee visits Chun-hyang's home and swears before Wolmae that he will take her as his wife. The two spend their first night together and experience a brief happiness as newlyweds. The vow marks the beginning of their fragile bond amid looming obstacles.

Lee must depart Namwon to accompany his father to Hanyang, leaving Chun-hyang behind. Chun-hyang hopes to join him, but Lee departs after receiving a harsh rebuke from his father for visiting a gisaeng house. He promises to return.

In Lee's absence, Byun Hak-do is appointed the new magistrate. Captivated by Chun-hyang's beauty, he orders her to come to him. When she refuses to dishonor herself, Byun imprisons her, and she endures harsh treatment.

Lee passes the civil service examination with the highest score and is secretly appointed as a royal inspector. Disguised as a beggar, he returns to Namwon and meets Wolmae. He keeps his identity hidden while planning to help his wife.

In disguise, Lee secretly visits Wolmae and sneaks into Namwon Prison to see Chun-hyang. Chun-hyang remains steadfast and even urges Wolmae and Hyang-dan to treat Lee with kindness despite her suffering. This covert contact rekindles hope for their reunion.

Chun-hyang endures severe hardships in prison, refusing to yield to Byun's coercion. She preserves her dignity and foils attempts to shame her family, maintaining hope for Lee's return. Her resilience strengthens the resolve of those who support her.

During Byun Hak-do's birthday celebration, Chun-hyang is brought out to be executed for her defiance. She faces the imminent death with composure, defying Byun's attempt to break her spirit. The crowd watches as the verdict seems to seal her fate.

At the last moment, Lee reveals himself as the secret royal inspector. He exposes Byun's corruption and orders his dismissal, paving the way for Chun-hyang's rescue. The revelation shifts the balance of power in Namwon.

Lee rescues Chun-hyang, and they are finally reunited in triumph. The corrupt official is removed from power, and their bond is vindicated by the reversal of the unjust death sentence. The couple looks toward a hopeful future together.
