This documentary explores the emergence of Melbourne and Sydney filmmaking cooperatives during the 1960s and 1970s. As civil rights movements gained momentum globally, these grassroots film collectives sought to challenge established cinematic norms. Some filmmakers experimented with pushing the boundaries of the medium itself, while others aimed to disrupt the industry’s homogeneity and spark conversations about important social issues like gender, sexuality, migration, and race. The film provides a fascinating look at a pivotal moment in Australian cinema history.
