Shaggy Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Scooby-Doo roll into Chicago with the rest of the Mystery Gang for Talent Star, a big-city talent show hosted by Brick Pimiento. The duo, ever eager for a spotlight, cheerfully push a juggling act as their entry, while the songwriting duo Fred Fred and Daphne Daphne secure their place as finalists with hopeful ambitions. They’re joined by Emma Gale Emma Gale, a gifted violinist who befriends the pair, and the group soon discovers that the competition is more perilous than simple stage presence. The opera house becomes a tense stage of its own when a Phantom stalks the venue, seemingly appearing in multiple spots at once and spraying the air with a lemony scent that marks his presence. Fred, Daphne, and Velma attempt to track the intruder through surveillance cameras, but the Phantom’s uncanny ability to vanish and reappear thwarts their early efforts. The Mystery Gang splits up to follow clues, while Shaggy and Scooby notice the distinctive lemon scent and press on with their own unorthodox approaches to sleuthing.

Back at the opera house, Fred deploys a ruse to defeat Ottman by swapping the Diamond for a dog bone and sending the man plunging into a garbage-filled barge, where he’s finally taken into custody. With Ottman removed, the focus shifts to a tie-breaking performance between Fred and Daphne and Emma. The gang’s antics—Shaggy and Scooby’s lighthearted jokes and a quick pivot in strategy—help swing the votes, though the final outcome hinges on a reveal that reshapes loyalties: Velma airs footage showing Pimiento in a Phantom costume, exposing his scheme to boost the show’s ratings. Pimiento confesses his scheme, and the Phantom costume is disentangled from the press of the night’s drama.

Steve Trilby closes the show, leaving a lasting impression with the crowd as the episode teases Talent Star’s renewal—hinting at a future season led by Trilby himself. The post-credits tease hints at a new case on the horizon, as the gang heads toward Goose Lake to investigate the Goose Lake Monster. Throughout the finale, the trio of hints—Lance Damon’s bold ruse, Dewey Ottman’s staged villainy, and Mel Richmond’s opportunistic ploy—are woven together to reveal a larger plan behind the show, its sabotage, and the ultimate resolution of who truly stood to gain from Talent Star’s sensational coverage.
