What Happens in Satan in High Heels: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Satan in High Heels (1962) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Stacey Kane, Meg Myles, is a cunning and ambitious striptease dancer in a cheap carnival. She tricks her heroin-addicted husband out of his money and leaves him, cloaked only in a corset and raincoat.

On a plane to New York, she meets a well-heeled businessman, Louie, who falls for her charms and sets her up in a hotel. He also arranges an audition for her at a Manhattan midtown club run by Pepe, Grayson Hall — an elegant, world-weary club owner who commands the room.

Stacey wows the club, delivers with her vocal ability, and begins being groomed as the leading chanteuse at the venue. Arnold Kenyon, Mike Keene, the club's owner, falls in love with Stacey and makes her his mistress, unaware that while he lavishes her with expensive gifts and prepares her for a debut at his club, she is also carrying on an affair with his playboy son, Laurence Kenyon.

On opening night, Stacey's estranged husband, Rudy, arrives at the club. Using both emotional and sexual appeal, Stacey persuades him to kill Arnold; but Rudy bungles the murder attempt and confesses his plan to Arnold. As the truth about Stacey’s double-dealing comes to light, she is abandoned by all the men in her life, tossed out of her apartment, and left stranded on the streets.
