The classic biopic follows the 17th‑century saint poet Tukaram of Maharashtra, depicting his spiritual awakening and his decisive break from elite Sanskrit traditions in favor of simple Marathi devotional verses. By dramatizing his life, the film highlights the enduring 20th‑century resonance of his vernacular religious poetry.
