The docudrama follows the Saint‑Gottardo tunnel, built in 1872 under conditions urged by a banker and engineer, costing many lives. In 1972 it was widened for cars, linking Germany’s Rhineland with Italy across the Alps. Re‑enactments show a strike crushed by the military and reveal that in 1972 the workforce was poor immigrant labor with power.
