Mesa, a young museum curator, finds herself trapped in a relentless repeat of August 8 after a drunken outburst at the statue of the “Red Ribbon Goddess” she has worshipped since childhood. The goddess does not punish her; instead, she gives Mesa a chance to mend what she has ignored.
Desperate, Mesa drags her friend Ben into the loop. The two spend the endless day trying to fix superficial problems—broken artifacts, a broken engagement, even a bucket‑list of reckless fun—but every attempt ends the same way. Mesa’s frustration grows, and she briefly uses Ben only to further her own escape, realizing she is still acting selfishly.
The turning point arrives when Mesa’s mother, who has been calling daily, finally breaks through the noise of the loop. Her mother’s simple concern forces Mesa to see that the emptiness she feels is not caused by external mishaps but by the lack of genuine connection.
Scanning the day’s events, Mesa spots a faint, heartbreaking detail: her colleague Ning (Lalita Patnon) is preparing to jump off a bridge, trapped in an abusive relationship and isolated from anyone who might help. The loop’s true lesson crystallizes—history repeats only when we fail to see and act for the people around us.
Mesa rushes to stop Ning, confronting the situation head‑on, while Ben summons a rescue team ahead of time. Ning is saved and, in the process, finds the courage to leave her abusive boyfriend, breaking her own cycle of suffering. By prioritizing another’s life over her personal crises, Mesa finally internalizes the goddess’s message about interconnection.
When dawn finally breaks on August 9, the loop releases its grip. Mesa awakens with Ben by her side, their bond now rooted in mutual respect rather than convenience. Ning moves forward, free from her tormentor. The Red Ribbon Goddess, having witnessed Mesa’s growth, thanks her for reviving the museum’s spirit and disappears, leaving Mesa with a newfound humility and the understanding that a perfect life is hollow without love and empathy.
