The 1707 eruption of Mt. Fuji unleashes hordes of demons from deep within the earth. Sakuya, the daughter of a samurai killed by those spirits, takes on a mission to scale the mountain and defeat the evil. She is joined by two veteran warriors who served her father and by Tarō, a young kappa she has adopted as a brother. Along the journey the warriors question Tarō’s loyalty, forcing the river spirit to choose between his own kind and the humans who raised him.
