The ending of Run Away weaves a complex web of family secrets and mistaken identities, ultimately revealing that the true villain of the piece was a tragic twist of fate rather than a singular antagonist. The central mystery regarding the death of Aaron is resolved through a series of staggering revelations. Initially, Simon Greene believes his daughter, Paige, killed her boyfriend in self-defense, a story Paige supports to protect her mother. However, the truth is far more devastating: Ingrid, Simon's wife, is the actual killer. After tracking her daughter down, Ingrid witnessed the aftermath of Aaron’s abusive behavior and murdered him to protect Paige. In a poignant act of maternal sacrifice, Paige attempted to take the blame to save her mother from prison.

Fortunately for the Greene family, the resolution of the crime is neatly swept under the rug due to the larger machinations of the story's antagonist, Casper Vartage. As the leader of a cult, Vartage had hired contract killers to eliminate his illegitimate heirs to protect his fortune. In the chaotic climax, these hitmen are killed—Ash by a bullet and Dee-Dee by a fall—providing the perfect cover. Simon, Ingrid, and Paige collectively decide to frame the deceased assassins for Aaron's murder, allowing the family to escape legal consequences.

The narrative delivers its most brutal blow in the final moments regarding Aaron's parentage. It is discovered that Aaron was not just a random boyfriend, but Vartage's son. More shockingly, a DNA test reveals that Aaron was also Ingrid's son, making him Paige’s half-brother. Ingrid had a child with Vartage years prior but was told the baby was stillborn; she had no idea the young man she killed to save her daughter was actually the son she thought had died at birth. This revelation recontextualizes the series' title, suggesting that Ingrid was the one who "ran away" from her past, only to have it tragically collide with her present. Ultimately, the family is reunited, with Paige revealed to have been safe in rehab for much of the story, but they are left to process the heavy burden of secrets they must keep to survive.
