In the scorching summer of 1917, nineteen‑year‑old peasant Georgy Zakareishvili leaves his Georgian village for work, boards a French ship and settles in Paris, where he marries a Frenchwoman and builds a modest life with his wife, children and loyal friend. Years later, an aging Georgy returns home, sharing folk songs, the Georgian language and stories of his village with his grandson. After his death, the grandson fulfills his wish by taking his ashes back to Georgia.
