Set in France, 1975, the film follows Jean, an exiled Spanish Communist who works as a successful screenwriter. After a personal tragedy, he wrestles with his political ideals, his yearning for a Spain still oppressed by General Franco, and the strain in his relationship with his son. It continues the story begun in the 1966 film “The War Is Over.”
