Ending explained
How Rainbow (2022) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.
In the final act Dora finally confronts the tangled truths about her family. After the chaotic party thrown in her honor, Coco attempts one last betrayal, slipping poison into Dora’s glass. Dora, aware of the danger, refuses the drink and slips away with her dog Toto. In a twist, Mirabel reverses the table, poisoning Coco’s own cup. Coco collapses into the pool, her death mistaken for a playful dive, and the celebration erupts into a carefree pool‑party.
Leaving the revelry, Dora spots the seemingly harmless lion that has lingered throughout the film. Its sudden appearance sends the guests fleeing, giving Dora a moment of quiet as she walks away from the turmoil. She then enters a restaurant where the server is named Pilar—the name she’s been searching for. The recognition is immediate, but Dora does not reveal herself; she has finally heard the truth her father tried to hide and understands why Pilar chose to stay away.
Accepting the closure, Dora texts her father to say she’s returning home, signaling that she has reconciled the painful past and is ready to move forward. Meanwhile, the other characters find their own peace: Muneco, Mr. Bubalu, and their new companion Ingrid forge a surrogate family, suggesting a hopeful new beginning for all.
The ending ties together the film’s themes of hidden lineage, betrayal, and redemption, showing that even amidst darkness, the “rainbow” of truth can guide the characters toward a brighter future.
