Ending explained
How Rabbit Hole (2023) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.
The season one finale of Rabbit Hole brings the conflict between corporate spy John Weir and the sinister manipulator Crowley to a head, delivering a conclusion that is both definitive and teasing. Weir's strategy, labeled the "Ace in the Hole," hinges on a final act of deception: he stages his own arrest by his FBI nemesis Madi, having previously convinced her to switch sides by proving that Agent Homm is still alive. This ruse allows Weir to reach a television studio where Homm can broadcast the truth about Crowley's plot to subvert democracy. Crowley attempts to thwart this revelation by kidnapping Weir's father, Ben, and Weir's ex-wife, but Weir has one last trap waiting. He reveals that the woman taken hostage was not truly his ex-wife, but a trained assassin he had placed as a protector years ago; she quickly dispatches the captors, allowing Ben to escape and the interview to air.
With his empire crumbling, Crowley is left powerless in his safe house. Ben eventually tracks him down, but the confrontation lacks the catharsis of a typical villain defeat. Instead, Ben is forced to execute a frail old man who can barely stand, a somber moment that highlights the tragic cost of their decades-long shadow war. The episode seemingly ends on a victorious note, with Weir and his team walking away and the conspiracy exposed to the public. However, the final moments introduce a jarring twist. Ben discovers a hidden earpiece in Crowley's ear, and upon using it, realizes that Crowley was not the ultimate architect of the chaos. This revelation recontextualizes the entire season, suggesting that Crowley was merely a puppet for a larger, unseen force, leaving the door wide open for future threats.
