Adapted from Machado de Assis’s novel, the film follows Rubião, disciple of philosopher Quincas Borba. When Quincas dies, Rubião inherits wealth, dog, philosophy and a hint of madness. Obsessed with Sofia, his friend’s wife, Rubião enters a game where she is the prize and he is unaware of the rules, a dreamer confronting an unprepared reality.
