Frank, a New Yorker, inherits his ancestral estate, Castle Kostka, in the Czech Republic. Returning with his wife Vivien and daughter Maria after forty years, they discover the castle in a state of disrepair. The only inhabitants are the long-serving steward Josef, housekeeper Mrs. Tichá, and handyman Krása, seemingly stuck in the aftermath of the post-revolutionary 1990s. Faced with the castle’s decay, Frank’s family must decide whether to sell the property and return to America or embark on a challenging restoration project.
