The film follows an Algerian National Liberation Army patrol tasked with escorting a captured French soldier toward the Tunisian border. As the guerrillas trek across rugged terrain, their dedication and sacrifice are highlighted. After the unit is decimated, a young peasant assumes command and sees the mission through.
