While dropping Bhanu at a bus stop in Chennai, Shankar notices the pretty Sarika and feels an instant attraction. He shares his interest with Bhanu, who becomes a confidante in this budding romance. This chance encounter seeds a romance that blooms on their daily bus rides.

Over successive bus journeys, Shankar and Sarika grow closer as they exchange smiles and conversations. Their affection deepens as they spend more time together on the daily ride. The bus becomes the backdrop for their secret romance.

Chidhambaram returns to Chennai for his wife's surgery and announces that Shankar's marriage is being arranged. At the same time, Sarika's family prepares their own matching arrangement. Both youngsters are unaware that the parents intend them to be each other's spouses.

Panneer misreads Shankar and Bhanu's friendship as romance and asks the elders for approval of their marriage. The misunderstanding adds strain to all sides of the growing triangle. The family dynamics become increasingly tangled as everyone weighs the options.

To appease his ailing mother before surgery, Shankar temporarily agrees to the arranged match overseen by the family. He hopes the gesture will buy time and ease the mounting tension in the household. This decision complicates his feelings for Sarika.

Panneer finds Shankar and Bhanu together and informs Sarika about the supposed wedding arrangements with Bhanu. The revelation fuels further misunderstandings and fractures between Shankar and Sarika. Sarika's trust begins to crack.

Devastated by the deception and the pressure from families, Sarika breaks up with Shankar. The couple's romance collapses under the weight of miscommunication and scheming relatives. Shankar is left to cope with the fallout of the revelation.

Shankar asks Bhanu to lay out the truth to Panneer, but Bhanu refuses and instead confesses that she secretly loves Shankar. She admits she used the arranged match to influence events, shocking Shankar and reshaping his view of Bhanu.

Bus driver Vellaisamy informs Sarika about Bhanu's involvement, helping her see that Shankar was innocent. Sarika reconciles with Shankar, restoring their bond after the emotional turmoil. The couple begins to navigate their relationship anew.

To separate Sarika from Shankar, Bhanu threatens her and enlists Doss, a stalker whose advances Sarika had rejected. Doss and his friends harass Sarika in public, tearing at her dignity and causing further turmoil.

Humiliation culminates in Sarika attempting poison suicide. She is taken to the hospital where Bhanu studies, but doctors' strike prevents timely treatment. The crisis forces the lovers to confront the consequences of their families' schemes.

Shankar rushes to the hospital, and Bhanu saves Sarika during the life-saving operation. She tells Shankar that her love for him is gone, admitting how far Sarika has gone for him. Shankar forgives Bhanu and finally reunites with Sarika.

With Sarika safe and their relationship restored, Bhanu finds a measure of peace with her brother Panneer. Shankar and Sarika begin their life together free from the earlier deceptions that threatened them. The family members reach a renewed sense of harmony, however fragile.
