Ending explained
How Overdose (2022) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.
In the film’s climax the police finally locate the gang’s last drug exchange in an abandoned building on the outskirts of Paris. Igor Reynald, the undercover operative who has been feeding information to Sara Bellaiche, arrives with his fellow gang member Said to complete the hand‑over. Eduardo Garcia, Castroviejo’s right‑hand man, ambushes them, drags Reynald down into the basement and, following Castroviejo’s orders, murders Said. He then brutally tortures Reynald, intent on avenging the gang’s earlier setbacks.
Just as Garcia is about to finish his revenge, Sara’s narcotics squad bursts in. A chaotic shoot‑out erupts; Garcia and the drug buyer are apprehended, while the wounded Reynald collapses. The injuries he sustained prove fatal, and he dies in Sara’s arms. Consumed by rage, Sara reaches for Garcia’s gun, but a fellow officer stops her and, in the heat of the moment, kills Garcia himself—an act that underscores the police’s belief that the criminals would otherwise escape justice through corruption.
The police also capture a man named Wahid, who had been hiding in the basement. Under interrogation he confesses the true reason behind the horrific murders of two children in a Paris hospital. Wahid’s family, long‑time rivals of Leila’s Moroccan clan, had been involved in drug trafficking. When Wahli’s father mistakenly believed that Ali’s father was an informant for a rival network, he ordered his son to exact vengeance. Leila and Wahid tracked Ali to the hospital, intending to kill him, but a second boy, Jérôme, happened to be in the same room and was slain as well. After Leila killed Ali, Wahid finished the job by murdering Ali’s mother. In reality, Ali’s father had been at the French embassy only to request a medical procedure for his son—nothing to do with the drug world—so the whole blood‑feud was based on a tragic misunderstanding.
Earlier in the story the police had already raided the kingpin’s estate; Alfonso Castroviejo tried to flee disguised as an officer but was recognized and killed by the assault team. The final arrests of the remaining gang members and the revelations from Wahid bring the sprawling drug operation to an end, while the misplaced revenge that sparked the children’s murders is exposed as a senseless tragedy.
