One quiet night of reflection on Gor finds Tarl Cabot meeting Watney Smith, a fellow professor with a keen but often unsuccessful interest in romance. Watney insists on joining Cabot to his next drinking spot, and during the drive Cabot’s ring activates, teleporting them to Gor through The Elder’ rose-quartz Home Stone, driven by suspicions that Xeno the Priest covets the throne. The return to Gor fills Cabot with joy at the prospect of reuniting with his lover, and a town full of people in Koruba share in that happiness as well. Yet the elation is tinged with danger, because the Elder has orchestrated this reunion to keep the realm safe from internal threats, while the shadow of political machinations looms over the castle.
Back in Koruba, Cabot is greeted with the news that his beloved Talena awaits, and that her father, Marlenus, now sits beside a new wife, the formidable Lara. A grand feast follows, where Marlenus announces his intention to step down and designates Cabot as his heir, a move that unsettles those who covet the throne for themselves. Lara, hungry for power, cultivates a dangerous alliance with the priest and sets in motion a plan to eliminate Marlenus. She asks Watney to provide a plausible alibi for her upcoming moves, and she crafts a web of deceit that frames Cabot for the murder. Talena believes in Cabot’s innocence, but the guards move quickly, and Cabot finds himself a fugitive, forced to flee with his diminutive ally Hup. The court’s fear and ambition run hot, and the two menacing forces of Lara and Xeno consolidate their grip on Koruba, while a hired hunter is brought in to track Cabot down.
In pursuit across the desert, Cabot and Hup stumble upon another group of slavers and stage a bold rescue of a female slave, a moment that underscores the fragile humanity that still survives amid Gor’s brutal politics. The hunter locates the trio that night and their fragile escape is cut short when they are recaptured and dragged back to Koruba. Lara, eager to consolidate power, tries to keep Cabot as a hostage but discovers that Xeno’s insistence on eliminating him creates a dangerous tension within the ruling circle. Cabot, meanwhile, refuses to bow to pressure and resolves to bring Marlenus’s killers to justice, even as the guard’s loyalty shifts under Lara’s scheming and the high priest’s calculating moves. The alliance between Lara and Xeno fractures as each realizes the other’s willingness to gamble with Koruba’s future; Lara’s relentless ambition provokes a dangerous double-cross, and the clash leaves both players exposed to the consequences of their choices.
The next day, Cabot, Talena, Hup, and Watney are paraded to a ceremonial execution that would seem to mark the end of their bid for peace and order in Koruba. Yet the four put up a fierce resistance, fighting off their captors with a surprising unity that catches Lara off guard as she unleashes the full force of her guard and the hunter. It falls to Watney to reveal the truth: Lara was the actual killer of Marlenus. The hunter, now a pawn in the age-old games of power, believes Watney’s account and launches a fatal spear at Lara, ending her scheming once and for all. With Cabot and Talena crowned King and Queen, their reign begins under the shadow of a fragile victory, and their bond—tested by love, politics, and the clamor of a realm in flux—takes on a new, resolute form as they prepare to govern together.
As the crowd settles, the ring on Cabot’s finger glows with a soft, inexorable light, a reminder that Gor’s magic can reach across worlds and time. Cabot worries about being sent back to Earth, yet the unexpected fate befalls Watney: he is the one who returns to his own world, only to find himself unexpectedly arrested for jaywalking in a busy road, a comic twist that underscores the unpredictable, sometimes absurd consequences of crossing between realms. The tension of the moment lingers as Gor’s politics shift under the weight of a new royal couple and a future that promises both peril and promise, a blend of romance, duty, and danger that defines the planet’s enduring allure.
