Four talented street magicians, J. Daniel Atlas, Henley Reeves, Jack Wilder, and Merritt McKinney, are mysteriously brought together by an unseen benefactor. They communicate through cryptic symbols understood only by magicians, hinting at a greater purpose.

A year after their gathering, they emerge as a Vegas sensation, performing as 'The Four Horsemen.' Sponsored by insurance mogul Arthur Tressler, they showcase their unique skills in a dazzling display of magic.

During a performance, the Horsemen invite an audience member, Étienne Forcier, to assist in what appears to be an astonishing illusion. The act concludes with a simulated bank heist, where money seemingly rains down on the audience from the air.

After the bank heist is discovered and the vault is found empty, FBI agent Dylan Rhodes is called to investigate. Teaming up with Interpol agent Alma Dray, they question the Horsemen but find no evidence linking them to the crime.

Dylan consults Thaddeus Bradley, a former magician who specializes in exposing fellow performers' tricks. Thaddeus analyzes the Horsemen's act and surmises that their elaborate plan had been executed weeks earlier.

Thaddeus unveils the truth behind the heist: the Horsemen replaced the bank's money with counterfeits beforehand. Étienne’s selection was no coincidence; he was monitored and chosen specifically to assist.

At their next performance in New Orleans, the Horsemen target Tressler’s bank to redistribute funds unjustly denied to insurance claimants. They execute their plan while evading capture, aided by hypnosis on the audience.

Dray uncovers whispers of a secretive magician's society called 'The Eye,' rumored to steal from the rich to aid the poor. She learns that members can only be recruited after undergoing mysterious rituals.

While the Horsemen evade authorities, tragedy strikes as Jack dies in a fiery car crash. Devastated but resilient, the remaining magicians prepare for one final, dangerous performance to recover from their loss.

In a climactic last performance, the Horsemen manage to create the illusion of vanishing from the stage while showering the audience with fake money. The true money is later discovered in Thaddeus's vehicle, leading to his arrest.

While in prison, Thaddeus realizes that Dylan must be the elusive fifth Horseman, as he witnessed an impossible escape. This epiphany reveals Dylan's hidden connection to the magicians.

Dylan finally introduces the Horsemen to their true benefactor status within 'The Eye.' This secret society operates with the intent of seeking justice against the corrupt elite and lending a hand to the powerless.

In a poignant encounter on the Pont Des Arts, Dylan reveals his connection to Lionel Shrike, a fallen magician. Through orchestrating the Horsemen's schemes, Dylan seeks vengeance against those who wronged his family.

Against her instincts, Dray decides to protect Dylan's secret by not exposing him. This act culminates in a symbolic gesture where she locks a charm to a fence, tossing the key into the Seine as a pact of secrecy between them.

As she walks away, Dylan's ominous words about locking away one last secret resonates. Their shared understanding of justice and deception closes this chapter while leaving possibilities for future encounters open.
