Natsamrat

Appa rises to the peak of his theatre career, winning the highest award and earning the revered title of Natsamrat. His fame and fortune come from performing Shakespeare and other plays. He then bequeaths all of his wealth to his children, showing his generous and unguarded nature.

Only Kaveri and Rambhau truly understand Appa's blunt nature, while Neha and Makrand grow to resent his expletives. His frankness often leads to embarrassing moments for the family in front of guests. This tension foreshadows the growing rift within the household.

The granddaughter performs a folk dance taught by Appa, which Neha disapproves of and a heated argument ensues. Neha suggests parting ways by moving out to give space to the family, hoping for a fresh start. Appa responds by deciding to move out as well, remarking that the world is a stage and his role will be a sad one.

Appa relocates to Rahul and Vidya's home, continuing to speak his mind with occasional expletives. Rahul, a caring engineer, tolerates him and even appreciates his poetry, while Vidya confronts the embarrassing episodes that come with Appa's behavior. The household tries to adapt to his ways.

On Vidya's anniversary, an inebriated Appa embarrasses Rahul's boss during a public moment. He apologizes the next day, and Rahul treats it as a one-off, choosing to overlook the incident rather than cast him out of the family.

Appa visits Rambhau, who is devastated by his wife Kumud's death and lashes out at his old friend for leaving him. In hospital, the two old actors share a moving exchange through imitated Karna and Krishna, and Appa fulfills Rambhau's final wish.

Rambhau overdoses on sleeping pills and dies. When Kaveri informs Appa of his death, Appa confesses that he gave him the pills, implying it was Rambhau's last wish and revealing Appa's guilt.

Another confrontation occurs when Appa insults Rahul's boss's son for his weak adaptation of Othello. Vidya confronts him and arranges to move into an outhouse, while Rahul continues to stand by Appa, showing his tolerance. The episode deepens the family's estrangement but also underscores Appa's stubborn loyalty to his art.

Vidya misplaces cash given by Rahul and accuses her parents of stealing. She discovers the money later and apologizes, but by that time Appa and Kaveri have already decided to move out. The incident marks a deeper fracture in the family’s trust and drives them apart.

The family escapes to their ancestral village in a dilapidated house, where Kaveri falls ill with fever and dies, leaving Appa devastated. He is sheltered by Raja, a boot polishwala who lives under a bridge with his family, highlighting his fall from grace. Raja's quiet support provides a glimmer of humanity in the midst of hardship.

In poverty and loneliness, Appa entertains customers at a village tea stall with poetry and dialogues from his plays, drawing admiration. He is sheltered by Raja, while a sense of lost grandeur haunts him. The performances keep his spirit momentarily alive.

A young admirer named Siddharth begins following Appa, convinced he is a noble actor and idol. Appa hides his true identity, but Siddharth's conviction grows that he is the legendary Ganpatrao. This devotion deepens as they spend time together.

Appa learns that his beloved theatre has burned to the ground and rushes there in shock. Siddharth arrives, revealing that he knew all along that Appa is Ganpatrao. The family and Raja come to implore him to return home, but he refuses and spirals between reality and his old stage persona.

On the shattered stage, Appa delivers a last performance for Siddharth and proclaims that theatre is about fulfilling longing. He screams, places a hand on his throat, and collapses; despite attempts to help, he dies on stage.
