Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears

Phryne Fisher helps rescue Shirin from imprisonment in 1920s Jerusalem. The rescue sets in motion a series of discoveries that tie Shirin’s fate to an ancient tomb and a deadly scheme.

Shirin is reunited with her uncle Sheikh Kahlil Abbas, and they travel to England for a memorial at Lofthouse Manor. The visit marks the start of Phryne’s return to English society and the unfolding mystery.

At Lofthouse Manor, a memorial for Miss Fisher is held. DI Jack Robinson travels from Australia to attend, and Miss Fisher arrives in a biplane to surprise everyone at the party.

Shirin explains how she came to Jerusalem, including the desert survivor story. A midnight meeting at All Saints' Church prompts Miss Fisher and DI Robinson to attend together, where a British man named Wilson is shot.

Before dying, Wilson passes an emerald amulet to Miss Fisher, asking her to give it to Shirin. Phryne and DI Robinson are arrested at the scene, and the police reveal Wilson was a felon who deserted with Captain Harry Templeton.

Antiquities expert Professor Linnaeus explains the amulet’s link to the Crypt of Tears and a cursed tomb. He warns that disturbing the tomb could bring misfortune on Phryne and those around her.

The next morning, Miss Fisher discovers Sheikh Kahlil Abbas has signed an agreement with Lord Lofthouse and Montague over the British Palestine Railways. His breach of trust sets him on a collision course with English interests.

Kahlil publicly denounces the British during a party at Lofthouse Manor. Later that night, he is shot dead by an unknown assailant, turning the investigation toward a web of loyalties.

DI Robinson visits Captain Templeton's widow, who presents an astrolabe that belonged to her husband. She reveals that Templeton’s death occurred alongside the tomb disturbance, and that her unborn child did not survive.

Miss Fisher, DI Robinson, Jonathon Lofthouse, and Shirin travel to the Negev using the astrolabe to locate a tomb. They discover an ancient corpse preserved in honey, identified as Alexander’s desert bride.

Another corpse near the coffin bears Jonathon’s insignia. Jonathon admits he had accompanied Templeton and Wilson to Shirin’s village years ago and hints at his broader motive.

Phryne deduces that Crippins, the Lofthouse butler, is the unknown assailant protecting Jonathon. He confronts them in the tomb, but Jonathon restrains him and the group escapes as the tomb walls collapse.

Miss Fisher explains Jonathon’s true paternity to Lord Lofthouse and reveals his guilt. She then says farewell to Shirin before continuing her journey back to England.

Phryne shares a heartfelt conversation with Jack Robinson; he says he doesn’t need to marry her, he only needs her heart. She replies that she has already given him her heart, and they spend the night together.

In a mid-credits scene, Phryne receives a letter announcing that her husband has been murdered. The revelation hints at his complicated past and future dangers.
