Seizing an opportunity to revitalize his career, Richard returns to the Isle of Man, the filming location of *Mindhorn*. He hopes to assist the police in a murder investigation connected to an escaped mental patient named Paul Melly.

Upon his arrival, Richard encounters skepticism from the local police, who see him merely as an arrogant relic of a bygone era. This skepticism amplifies Richard's feelings of inadequacy in his quest for redemption.

Richard discovers that his former love interest, Patricia, is now in a relationship with his old stuntman Clive. Their shared daughter, Jasmine, further complicates Richard's feelings as he navigates through old memories and unresolved emotions.

A crucial meeting with his ex-manager Moncrieff reignites Richard's passion for *Mindhorn*. However, this rekindling of hope is short-lived as Richard soon faces a stark reality after a wild night of partying.

While waiting for a ferry, Richard receives unsettling fan mail from Paul Melly, including a mysterious videotape. This clue hints at deeper corruption involving the local mayor and propels Richard into action.

Moncrieff proposes to blackmail the mayor using the tape, but Richard refuses, choosing instead to confront Melly. He soon discovers that Moncrieff has betrayed him by swapping the crucial tape for a fake.

The plot thickens when Moncrieff is murdered by DS Baines, who is involved in a conspiracy with the mayor. Left without a key ally, Richard must now navigate this dangerous situation on his own.

A chaotic chase ensues, leading to a dangerous confrontation on the beach as Baines and Melly's nurse are revealed to be intertwined in the conspiracy. In the melee, Melly is shot.

In a twist, Richard uncovers that Melly's 'copy' tape is actually a model made from plasticine. As he races against time, Richard uses Melly's *Mindhorn* recorder to capture DS Baines' confession.

With evidence in hand, Richard and Patricia orchestrate a plan to expose the conspiracy, revealing both the mayor's and Baines' roles in the crimes. Their efforts culminate in the restoration of order.
