Middle Class Madhavan

Madhavan is a young lawyer who works under a principled but struggling senior advocate and carries the heavy responsibility of supporting his family. He looks after his irresponsible father Perumal, sharp-tongued mother Pushpa, and two unmarried sisters Maala and Neela. The setup establishes the pressures that drive the entire story.

Maala's engagement to Kuzhandaivelu is arranged at a theme park outside the city. In that moment, Abhirami, an orphan under Madhavan's senior's guardianship and an announcer at Chennai's SETC bus station, catches Madhavan's attention. The encounter sets the stage for the intertwined fates of the families.

During the wedding jewel shopping, a mishap results in the loss of ₹125,000 from Perumal's retirement funds. Madhavan is devastated by the potential fallout and his family's reaction. Abhirami offers to help, planting the seed for their eventual marriage.

Abhirami's guardian states she can access her inheritance only if she marries. To protect the family’s future, Madhavan arranges their marriage, taking his relatives by surprise.

Abhirami and Madhavan marry and move into the family home. She secretly uses her inheritance to support the family, letting them believe the earnings are Madhavan's. Pushpa begins gossiping about Abhirami behind her back.

With Abhirami's help, Maala and Neela's marriages proceed smoothly. Kuzhandaivelu moves in with Maala, while Neela and Manimaran stay as well, occupying the bedrooms and expanding the household. Madhavan and Abhirami end up sharing the living space as the family settles in.

Madhavan plans a rare moment with Abhirami and asks the others to vacate their rooms while Perumal is away on a religious trip to Sabarimala. The plan backfires when they are electrocuted in the bathroom, disrupting their hopes for intimacy.

Abhirami is transferred to Tindivanam, and Madhavan accompanies her, seeking privacy. Their plans are thwarted first on the train and then at a lodge due to a bomb hoax threat, forcing them to remain apart for longer.

Kuzhandaivelu and Manimaran's foolish actions land them in trouble, and Madhavan bailed them out. They recover at his house, reclaiming the bedrooms they had occupied earlier.

Plans to meet on weekends between Madhavan and Abhirami fall through, and the couple struggles to find time alone. Neela's pregnancy triggers hurtful comments from Pushpa, making Abhirami feel unwanted, and she leaves for Tindivanam.

In court, Madhavan argues that intimacy is not the only purpose of marriage. The senior is shocked to learn the couple hasn’t had a chance to be together since their marriage. The family is rebuked and then apologizes to Abhirami and Madhavan.

Perumal and Pushpa invite Abhirami to stay with them, and she agrees. On her way to Chennai, a bus accident occurs, but Abhirami is rescued and the family apologizes again for their behavior.

The film ends with Madhavan and Abhirami sharing a private moment in a van while Kuzhandaivelu and Manimaran drive, and the rest of the family travels above, signaling a fragile but hopeful balance in their lives.
