Marshal of Cedar Rock

Bill Anderson escapes from prison with the help of Rocky Lane and a cooperating warden. Rocky is hoping Bill will lead him to the gang and the stolen money. The escape takes place in an unidentified western state in 1890.

Bill returns to Cedar Rock, with Rocky Lane in close pursuit. When his horse goes lame, he accepts a ride on a buckboard driven by John Harper. They head toward town while Rocky continues to track them.

Back in Cedar Rock, Nugget Clark presses his niece Martha to be kinder to banker Henry Mason. Mason explains that the bank cannot extend a loan after the robbery and hints at selling out to a land development company. Nugget resists, hoping the railroad will come and raise land values; Mason suggests Harper's arrival may help.

Bill disembarks from John Harper's buckboard outside town and walks the remaining distance into Cedar Rock. John Harper arrives in town to see Mason. Mason reveals he is behind the rustling and robberies and orders two of his henchmen to dispose of Harper.

Bill confronts Mason at gunpoint and demands they go to the sheriff to clear his name. Rocky overhears the confrontation, and when Mason refuses to go, Rocky shoots Bill's gun out of his hand. Bill is arrested by the sheriff, but Mason's gang storms the town, shooting up the streets. Martha Clark is saved when Rocky intervenes.

While the town reels from the earlier confrontation, Mason has Paul Jackson pose as Harper to convince ranchers to sell to the land company. Mason also sends some of his gang after Bill and orders them to silence Rocky, whom he suspects might know too much.

Rocky spots Bill in town and gives chase, but Bill escapes and goes to the Clark ranch. While Nugget naps, Bill convinces Martha that he is innocent, and Nugget awakens to hear the case and becomes persuaded.

Rocky reveals to the Clarks that he is a US Marshal and suspects Mason's involvement. With their help, he pretends to be Nugget's new ranch-hand to root out the impostor Harper. The fake Harper arrives in town offering a much lower price than the land company's deal, prompting Nugget to hesitate.

Bill searches Mason's office and hides when Mason returns. The Clarks, Rocky, and the fake Harper arrive, and Bill realizes the impostor is not the real Harper.

Nugget is about to sign the deal with the land company when Martha stops him. The fake Harper spots Rocky taking Bill to the sheriff and tells Mason about the investigation.

Harper (the fake) admits that he is not the real Harper and reveals that the plan came from Mason, who has sent men to kidnap the Clarks to force Nugget to sign. Rocky realizes the depth of Mason's scheme and tightens his resolve.

Jackson, also known as Harper, leads Rocky and Bill to the barn where the Clarks are being held by Mason and two of his men. In a fierce shootout, Jackson and the two henchmen are killed and Bill is wounded. Rocky ultimately overcomes Mason.

Rocky secures a confession from Mason about the robberies. Nugget agrees to sell to the railroad, ensuring future prosperity for the town, and Bill and Martha become engaged.
