A charming tale follows young Cedric Errol, who lives with his widowed mother in genteel poverty in 1880s Brooklyn after his father's death. When the Earl of Dorincourt—who long ago disowned his own son for marrying an American—loses his sole heir, he reluctantly accepts Cedric as his successor, thrusting the boy into a world of aristocracy and an unexpected earldom.
