The film opens with a chilling message left for a single woman, warning that the 'Candlelight Killer' is in her apartment and intends to kill her. Before she can react to the message, a masked man silences her, dragging her into her bedroom, which ominously suggests a romantic evening.

The scene shifts to a Catholic high school where 14-year-old Lisa and her best friend Wendy engage in a game of photographing attractive single men. They spot a man in a convertible and, using distraction tactics, capture his picture, excited about their new find for their fantasy scrapbook.

Later at Wendy's house, the girls receive a phone call that invites them on a double date. Lisa is thrilled at the prospect until her overprotective mother, Katherine, forbids her from dating until she turns 16, reflecting Katherine's fears stemming from her own teenage experiences.

Lisa broaches the subject of the date with her mother during dinner but is met with steadfast refusal. While running an errand to fetch rice, she encounters the charming Candlelight Killer, who helps her pick up her groceries, unknowingly endangering her life.

Despite her close call, Lisa is captivated by the killer’s good looks and memorizes his SUV's license plate. This moment marks the beginning of her obsession, leading her to delve deeper into his identity.

Using her skills to alter her voice, Lisa befriends a DMV agent on the phone to discover the killer's identity, whose name is Richard. Engaging in flirtatious conversations, Lisa grows increasingly infatuated with him, all while he remains unaware of her true age or intentions.

As Lisa's obsession grows, she and Wendy begin stalking Richard, who manages a high-end restaurant. This risky behavior showcases Lisa's growing recklessness as she becomes blinded by her infatuation.

One day, Lisa decides to investigate Richard’s apartment complex and sneak into his SUV, lost in daydreams about him. Panic sets in when she realizes she has inadvertently locked herself in and must escape before Richard approaches.
