In 1989, we meet Lisa Swallows, a deeply troubled teenage girl grappling with the grief of losing her mother to an axe murderer two years prior. Lisa's turmoil is compounded by the recent marriage of her father, Dale, to Janet, a woman who is cruel and self-absorbed.

As Lisa adjusts to this new family life, she encounters her popular stepsister, Taffy, who brings a vivacious presence into Lisa's otherwise isolated world. However, Taffy's popularity does little to help Lisa's sense of alienation from her new family.

Feeling increasingly alone, Lisa seeks solace in the eerie surroundings of Bachelor's Grove Cemetery. There, she finds a haunting peace while mourning her mother's death, finding comfort among the gravestones.

A grim incident involving a tanning bed leaves Lisa nearly electrocuted, further escalating her inner turmoil. This frightening brush with danger prompts her to attend a party with Taffy, hoping for a moment of normalcy.

At the party, Lisa unknowingly gets drugged and faces a terrifying attempt at sexual assault by classmate Doug. Deeply traumatized, she seeks refuge in the cemetery once more, where she speaks to the grave of a young Victorian man, expressing her desire for connection.

Lisa's heartfelt confession at the cemetery awakens the spirit of the Victorian man, who transforms into the Creature. Resurrected by mysterious green lightning, he seeks connection and understanding, mirroring Lisa's own struggles.

After Lisa confronts more tensions at home with Janet, the Creature unexpectedly intrudes into her life. Initially scared, Lisa soon recognizes him as the figure from her dreams, leading to an emotional bond as she hides him in her closet.

Following a heated confrontation with Janet, the Creature responds to her cruelty and violently retaliates, ultimately resulting in Janet's gruesome death. In a tragic gesture of loyalty, Lisa sews Janet's severed ear onto the Creature's head.

Lisa and the Creature work together to hide Janet's body in the cemetery, attempting to conceal their dark actions. Lisa experiments with the tanning bed in a desperate effort to revitalize the Creature, becoming increasingly entangled in their sinister bond.

In a shocking turn of events, Lisa leads Doug to the graveyard under false pretenses. The Creature murders Doug, believing it will help restore his humanity, further complicating Lisa's already chaotic life.

Lisa's burgeoning feelings for Michael are shattered when she discovers him with Taffy, leading to a violent confrontation. This emotional upheaval places Lisa at odds with both her family and the Creature.

In a hauntingly beautiful moment, the Creature whispers to resurrected Lisa, 'I’ll always be with you,' as she rests her head on his lap. This symbolizes the strange, yet profound, nature of their love, transcending the limitations of life and death.
