Limbo (2023) Ending Explained – Final Scene & Meaning

In the end, Travis discovers that Leon was indeed the person responsible for Charlotte Hayes' disappearance and likely her murder. The burned-out car near the cave, which was driven by Leon on that day, contains the crucial evidence that links him to the crime. Despite Leon's death, Travis finds evidence that implicates him as the real perpetrator. The revelation of numerous women's undergarments in Joseph's house further suggests that Leon was not only involved in Charlotte's kidnapping and killing but also in harming other young women. For a moment, Travis almost shoots Joseph, Leon’s brother, who is on his deathbed, revealing the extent of Leon's dark deeds. However, out of empathy and recognizing Joseph's suffering, Travis chooses not to take violent revenge. Instead, he quietly leaves the town, driving away into the vast, empty desert, leaving unresolved questions behind. The ending underscores the deep-rooted injustices faced by Aboriginal people, the corruption and racism within the police system from long ago, and how these factors continue to obscure the truth. Ultimately, the film leaves viewers with a haunting sense that some truths remain hidden and that the cycle of injustice persists, even when the killer has died.
