The climax of Lift centers on a tense confrontation at the estate of the billionaire antagonist, Lars Jorgensen. After a chaotic sequence involving a mid-air heist and a dangerous crash landing, Cyrus and his team appear to have failed, forced to deliver the gold to Lars at gunpoint. However, the true resolution unfolds in two parts. First, Cyrus secures Lars' arrest by revealing that Mi-sun, the team's engineer, had recorded the billionaire murdering a representative from the hacker group Leviathan. This evidence exposes Lars not just as a thief, but as a threat to global security, ensuring Interpol takes him into custody.
The film’s final twist reveals that the team successfully stole the gold out from under both Lars and Interpol. While the audience is led to believe the crew is merely trying to survive the flight, Magnus, the safecracker, had actually swapped the real gold bars for gold-painted iron ones. The genuine treasure was ejected from the plane mid-flight, retrieved by Luke—a team member who faked a cowardly exit earlier to secure the drop zone. This allows Cyrus to walk away with the $500 million prize, outsmarting the corrupt Interpol agent Huxley in the process.
The resolution also cements the character arc of Abby, the Interpol agent who initially recruited Cyrus. Upon discovering that Huxley ordered a strike on their plane knowing she was on board, she realizes the agency she serves lacks moral integrity. In a move that sets up a potential franchise, she quits Interpol to join Cyrus's crew permanently. The ending establishes the team as modern-day Robin Hood figures: they have stopped a global crisis, punished a corrupt billionaire, and secured a massive payday, all while cementing a new family dynamic that leaves the door open for future heists.
