Shopkeeper Victor Garnier, urged by his banker, invests his family’s savings in a mine that is soon nationalised, nullifying the stock’s value. Feeling cheated, he plots to rob the bank, recruiting his family and deciding to tunnel underground. Their inexperience and his wife’s habit of blurting the truth to the local officer endanger the plan.
