In 1876, peace exists among the tribes except the Comanche chief Black Cloud, who razes a town. Six surviving soldiers head for the near fort, joined by stagecoach passengers. After finding water at a deserted mission they are pinned down by Cloud’s warriors. They send an Indian boy, once Cloud’s captive, to the fort, learning the raider himself lacks water.
