How KNOX (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.
In the film’s final act John Knox deliberately sets himself up to be taken down for the two murders his son, Miles, has been accused of. With only weeks left before his rapidly advancing Creutzfeldt‑Jakob disease consumes his mind, Knox contacts his old associate Xavier, who helps him stage a flawless frame: evidence is planted, the crime scene is cleaned, and Knox even visits Miles in prison to plant the story that will later exonerate him. When Detective Emily Ikari finally arrests Knox, the police conclude that the evidence points to him, not his son, and Miles is released.
The plan also secures Knox’s retirement money. After a tense showdown with the woman he has been seeing, Annie, and a gang of burglars, Knox manages to hand over the bulk of his ill‑gotten fortune to his estranged wife Ruby and to Miles. Annie, aware of Knox’s impending decline, betrays him to the unseen crime boss, but the bulk of the cash still ends up with the family.
Knox’s brief period of freedom ends swiftly. He is taken to prison, where his dementia accelerates. In a later scene, Miles visits his father, only to find a man who no longer recognizes him. Knox is soon transferred to a medical facility, and the closing image shows him staring blankly out a window, his mind emptied by the disease. The ending leaves Knox’s life and his literary passions behind, but his final act gives his son a chance at redemption and secures a modest legacy for the family he had long abandoned.
