After Earth's destruction by the Gauna, humanity fled aboard the massive generation ship Sidonia, drifting through space for millennia. A century passes before Sidonia faces another Gauna attack, pushing the ship and its inhabitants to the brink of extinction. A temporary victory is achieved with the help of Tsumugi Shiraui, a human-Gauna hybrid, and ace pilot Nagate Tanikaze. Ten years later, a fragile peace settles over Sidonia, during which Tsumugi begins to develop feelings for Nagate, now a celebrated hero. However, the Gauna remain a constant threat, and a final, decisive battle looms, determining the fate of humanity's last survivors.
