King Solomon’s Mines

In 1882, Patsy O'Brien and his daughter Kathy dream of striking it rich in Kimberley's diamond mines. They persuade the seasoned explorer Allan Quartermain to drive them toward the coast, beginning a perilous expedition. The journey hinges on luck, grit, and the hope of a better life.

On the road they encounter another wagon with two men in bad shape. Umbopa recovers, but Silvestra Getto dies after boasting of finding the mines. Patsy finds the dead man's map and slips away at night, determined not to endanger his daughter.

Kathy convinces Quartermain to continue, and they rendezvous with Sir Henry Curtis and John Good, who are hunting large game. The newcomers join the expedition, creating a larger, more complex party. The pursuit of the map's clues becomes a shared quest.

Kathy steals Quartermain's wagon to chase after her father across the desert. The party refuses to abandon her, and Umbopa accompanies them, forming a larger procession bound by a common mission. The rescue mission drives them forward.

They reach the mountains shown on the map and push into unfamiliar terrain. During the arduous crossing, Curtis and Kathy fall in love, adding romance to the dangerous quest. Umbopa's presence keeps the group focused on their goal.

Beyond the mountains they are surrounded by hostile natives and taken to Twala's kraal. They are led toward the entrance of the mines, where the witch doctor Gagool presides over the proceedings. The tension mounts as the fate of their expedition hangs in the balance.

Umbopa reveals his true heritage as the son of the former chief and aligns with dissidents led by Infadoos. They plot an uprising for the next day during the 'smelling out of the evildoers' ceremony, seeking a plan that could counter Gagool's magic with Quartermain's help.

During the rite, Gagool selects victims as the ceremony unfolds. Good recalls a Derby Day bet and notes in his diary that a total solar eclipse will occur at 11:15 a.m., a moment that could overturn Gagool's power. The timing sets the stage for the coming upheaval.

At the height of the eclipse, Umbopa declares his true identity, galvanizing the rebels. The conflict erupts into open battle, and Curtis kills Twala, effectively ending the civil war and shifting power toward Umbopa's faction.

Kathy ventures into the mine to search for her father and discovers him immobilized with a broken leg but clinging to a pouch of diamonds. The group's resolve is tested as they navigate the dangerous, diamond-filled depths.

Gagool unleashes a rockfall that seals the group inside the mine. Quartermain, Curtis, and Good follow Kathy and Patsy as the revelation of the mine's connection to a long-sealed volcano deepens the peril. The trap tightens as hope fades.

Umbopa pursues Gagool back into the depths of the mine, where the witch doctor is crushed by falling rocks. The volcano threatens to erupt, and the new chief provides an escort to help the group cross the desert, ensuring a perilous escape from the mines.
