In the film’s final stretch, Sarah’s desperation drives her to try drowning her daughter in the river, convinced the child is a supernatural curse. Dr. Bender intervenes, shooting Sarah and taking the girl to the remote settlement of Ross Corner. There, the preacher Ross pretends to offer a cure, but under the cover of night he plans to kill both Bender and the child, hoping to profit from the promised miracle.

When Bender is captured, the girl’s spectral voice urges him to “break the steel that you cannot bend.” Inspired, he smashes his own hands against a stone, freeing the girl from her bonds in a moment that mirrors the harrowing self‑sacrifice of 127 Hours. The child’s latent power awakens; she revives her mortally wounded mother, turning the tables on the murderous accomplices. In the chaos that follows, the would‑be executioners meet a brutal end, and the trio—Bender, the girl, and the resurrected mother—emerge alive.

The ending leaves the child’s nature deliberately ambiguous. Though her touch still carries a lethal threat, the film frames her ability as both a curse and a means of survival, forcing the characters to choose faith in each other over fear. In the end, a fragile reconciliation is forged: a mother accepts the child she once tried to destroy, a doctor finds redemption by protecting the girl, and the supernatural menace becomes a twisted source of hope rather than pure evil.
