Ending explained
How Karma (2024) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.
Ju‑Yeon, now a doctor, finally confronts the man who destroyed her teenage life. Two decades earlier she had been lured into a fake date that ended with a brutal assault, a crime orchestrated by a senior named Beom‑Jun who manipulated a jealous classmate. The man she believes to be the original perpetrator, Jae‑yeong, is actually Beom‑Jun wearing his dead friend’s identity.
When Ju‑Yeon tracks him to a church—where the insurance money meant for his father has been diverted—she arrives with a scalpel, ready to end his life. Her boyfriend Yoon, who has been working for the loan‑sharks tied to the case, intervenes. He tells her he knows everything and urges her not to let vengeance consume her. Realizing that killing will not heal her nightmares, Ju‑Yeon drops the blade, beats the man and walks away. Beom‑Jun swallows three fentanyl tablets that a private detective had swapped into his bottle; he later vomits them up, but the damage is done.
Desperate, he tries to flee, returning to the real Jae‑yeong’s house where he discovers the old school magazine that marked the beginning of his cruelty. The memory of his role in the assault comes crashing back, and he is seized by men in black and dragged into a van—his fate sealed by the very karma he helped create.
Meanwhile, Yoon, who has been the reluctant enforcer for the loan‑sharks, is forced to operate on Beom‑Jun without anesthesia. After the gruesome surgery he receives a gift—a watch that looks exactly like the Rolex once owned by Jae‑yeong. The token suggests a transfer of power, but also hints that Yoon might choose a different path, free from the darkness that claimed his rival.
At the series’ close a detective offers Ju‑Yeon DNA proof that the two men were not the same person, but she refuses to listen. She steps out into the first snowfall, symbolising the cold clarity that finally lets her move beyond the trauma. In the end, Ju‑Yeon’s choice to forgo murder becomes the true act of karmic balance, allowing her to leave the cycle of revenge behind.
