Ju-on: The Curse

Takeo Saeki discovers Kayako's affair with Kobayashi and confronts the betrayal. He murders Kayako, their son Toshio, and the family cat Mar, then deserts the house. This brutal act seeds a vengeful Onryō curse that will haunt the Nerima residence.

The killings unleash a curse that overwrites the house with the presence of Onryō spirits. It claims anyone who enters the house or anyone connected to someone who has entered, spreading death around the place where it manifests. The haunting deepens as more victims fall to the curse.

Kobayashi, Toshio's elementary-school teacher, visits the Saeki house to check on the boy's repeated absences. He uncovers Kayako's tragic story and finds her bloody corpse hidden in the attic. The unsettling atmosphere grows as he awaits the parents' return.

Kobayashi tries to flee the house with Toshio, hoping to remove the boy from danger. He learns from Takeo's actions—the abortion of Manami's unborn fetus—before a final attempt to escape fails. The danger escalates as Kayako's presence threatens them.

Kayako's corpse reanimates and murders Kobayashi, sealing the teacher's grim fate within the cursed house. The violent death marks another victim claimed by the haunting. The curse's reach continues to spread through the house.

Takeo, carrying the dead fetus in the street after the abortive act, is slain by Kayako's spirit. The killer returns to claim him as the curse claims more lives. The house's rage shows no mercy.

Sometime later, the Murakami family moves into the Saeki house. They begin to notice odd noises, a looming cat sighting, and a growing sense of dread that hints at the house's dark history. The curse starts to touch new inhabitants.

Yuki, the Murakami daughter's tutor, confronts the house's terror after noticing a black cat's appearance. She investigates the attic and is killed by Kayako, adding another victim to the curse. The haunting continues to claim lives within the house.

Tsuyoshi's girlfriend Mizuho Tamura waits at the school while a teacher checks in. Toshio's presence terrorizes her and a chilling call from 4444444444 precedes his sudden appearance beside her. The supernatural reach extends into the living world.

Detective Yoshikawa and his aide Kamio investigate the mutilated body of high schooler Hisayo Yoshida and find a severed human jaw nearby. The case deepens the sense that the house's curse touches the community. The investigation links the school tragedies to the cursed household.

Noriko returns home to find her daughter Kanna approaching with no jaw, an eerie sign of the curse's reach. Her horror confirms that the haunting has taken a direct toll on the Murakami family. The family reels from the nightmarish transformation.

The Nerima house is taken over by Suzuki Real Estate, which assigns Kyoko to assess the property. Kyoko feels a growing discomfort and warns that any buyer must drink sake during the visit; spitting it out signals ill fortune. The sale proceeds amid an increasing sense of dread.

The Kitada couple purchase the house, and Yoshimi is soon possessed by Kayako's spirit. The possession signals the curse's continuity and the cycle of horror for new inhabitants. The haunting thus travels from the original family to a new set of victims.
