Today Iranian cinema is among the world’s most respected national film industries, regularly winning festival awards and critical praise for works that fuse striking artistry with social relevance. Iran: A Cinematographic Revolution traces the evolution of this cinema, closely tied to Iran’s turbulent politics—from the long reign of Reza Shah Pahlavi and his son, through Khomeini’s rise and the birth of the Islamic Republic, the 1979 U.S. Embassy hostage crisis, to the brutal Iran‑Iraq war—showcasing how history has shaped its unique voice.
