Inside Out

Harry Morgan and Sylvester Wells conceive a plan to recover six million dollars of Nazi gold buried since the war. They recall a complex transport order involving two guards, a heavy truck, and the Reich Bank, and begin to map the operation.

A roadblock of SS commandos intercepts the cargo truck and executes the passengers, erasing the fate of the spoils. The gold remains missing as the war ends and the crew's plan becomes a long, shadowy memory.

Thirty-four years after the war, Harry Morgan returns to London, living with mounting debts. He receives a letter from someone in his past requesting a meeting, reigniting the long-dormant gold scheme.

Harry meets Ernst Furben at the London Embassy Hotel, where Ernst recounts the cargo story and proposes releasing Holtz to locate the gold. They discuss the possible players and the plan to locate the treasure.

Harry travels to Amsterdam to find Sly Wells, who is playing chess with a Dutch teenager. Sly initially refuses, but agrees to join the plan after hearing the potential payout.

They enlist Peter Dohlberg to finance the heist for 15% of the take. Erika Kurtz is introduced as an assistant, and Udo Blimperman is recruited to supply the uniforms and other resources.

Prior, the Seigfried prison sergeant, outlines the security procedures and notes that Holtz is only reachable through a doctor named Maar. The team schemes to use a confidence game involving Erika.

Sly and Erika scout an abandoned courthouse and decide to use it as the stage for the fake meeting with Holtz. They purchase furnishings and coordinate with Pauli, while Maar’s testimony is leveraged to complete the disguise.

Maar is swapped with Holtz and dressed as a civilian, while Sly and the others disguise themselves as United States Army officers. Holtz is drugged and moved toward the courthouse setup, with a guard distracted by a faltering plan.

In a courtroom-like setting, Schmidt appears as Adolf Hitler, Sly plays an SS officer, and Ernst poses as a Field Marshal. Holtz is convinced by the staged authority and hints about the gold’s hidden location are elicited.

The team crosses into East Germany and reaches the summer home bunker beneath a concealed room. Kosnikov arrives with Soviet soldiers and demands a share, while Schlager is killed and the team begins drilling into the bunker to reach the gold behind a partition.

Kosnikov threatens the crew, leading to a fatal confrontation in which Schmidt is killed by Kosnikov and Kosnikov is then killed by Sly. The two chests of gold are finally retrieved and prepared for transport.

The surviving crew returns to West Germany with the gold and hands it to Peter for conversion to US dollars. They navigate a checkpoint with practiced ease as the loot is prepared for its final path.

Maar and Holtz are swapped back into their proper places, and Holtz wakes claiming he saw Hitler. The trio departs Berlin together, with Ernst pondering whether he was ever truly a Nazi, concluding with a quiet walk through the city.
