In the Shadow of Women

Throughout the story, Sara, a former secret agent haunted by her past, is driven by personal loss and her desire for justice. In the climax, she manages to confront Vigilante, a corrupt enforcer connected to powerful political and criminal networks. With help from her allies, Sara uncovers Vigilante’s involvement in the political corruption and murder of Tarallo, the politician she once investigated. In a final act of vengeance, Sara shoots Vigilante during a walk in the street, and he dies. This act of justice feels personal and overwhelming for her, closing a chapter of her life filled with betrayal and pain.

Meanwhile, Sara’s pursuit of truth exposes the deeper corruption within the Italian political system and the secret service. Her investigation leads her to reveal that Vigilante had ties to a cover-up from the 1990s involving a bombing orchestrated by neo-Nazis and a mole within the secret service, Lemba, who had set up Tamburi, a previous chief of the agency. Sara’s confrontation with Lemba remains unresolved, as she lacks concrete proof to bring him to justice.

In the end, Sara finds some peace by listening to a heartfelt message from Tamburi, left for her by a former colleague, Catapa. This emotional recording encourages her to move forward, to forgive herself, and to embrace a future beyond her shadowed past. She chooses to focus on protecting her new family—her partner Viola, her son Massimiliano, and her hope for a simpler, more peaceful life—rather than seeking further revenge. The series concludes with Sara playing the message, symbolizing her decision to find peace and start anew, leaving behind the darkness that once consumed her.
