In the tranquil expanse of Connecticut’s beautiful Litchfield County, where the Housatonic River flows serenely, a celebrated short story author, Jennifer Hills, seeks seclusion in a cottage near Manhattan to find inspiration for her first novel. This peaceful retreat is disrupted by the presence of the charming gas station manager, Johnny Stillman, and two idle locals, Stanley Woods and Andy Chirensky, who become inexplicably fascinated by Jennifer’s every move.

Across the way is Matthew Duncan, a kind-hearted man dealing with mild mental challenges, who becomes both Jennifer’s neighbor and grocery delivery person. His innocent admiration for Jennifer is echoed by his friends, who share exaggerated tales of her beauty, including whispers of an accidental sighting of her. Emboldened by their crude impulse, Stanley and Andy engage in a sinister stalking of Jennifer, maneuvering their boat near her cottage under the cover of night.

The peaceful sanctuary of Jennifer’s retreat shatters catastrophically when these men launch a brutal assault while she is out on her boat. In a horrifying twist, Johnny joins in, and they drag her violently to shore, forcing the reluctant Matthew to participate. Despite her desperate resistance, they strip her of her bikini, revealing a dreadful plan: to initiate Matthew into manhood through a vile act against her will.

Their search leads them directly to Jennifer’s secluded cabin, where Andy descends armed with an axe. As Jennifer rises from the depths of the lake, she flings Stanley into the icy water; Andy’s attempts to attack her backfire, and she turns the weapon against him, delivering his fatal blow.

Desperate to evade a similar fate, Stanley clings to the boat’s motor, pleading for mercy. Yet, Jennifer’s response mirrors the cruelty once inflicted upon her: “Suck it, bitch!” As she revs the engine to life, Stanley’s terrified cries are engulfed by the ferocity of the motor, his fate sealed as she disappears into the shadows, leaving behind a chilling silence that echoes the depths of her revenge.
